Darkroom officially began in New Zealand in 2003, working with club visuals and stage design. Founder Bruce Ferguson first got involved in event visuals during his time with Kog Transmissions – a Kingsland based Electronic Dance Music label. In 2004 they collaborated with Inside-Out Productions on the Louis Vuitton 150th Anniversary events, which gained Darkroom international recognition. Through his work for Loius Vuitton, Bruce was introduced to artists like Michael Lin and Takashi Murakami. This kicked off a working relationship with Murakami’s studio, Kaikai Kiki, that has lasted nearly 15 years.
As their expertise developed, Darkroom branched out into cutting-edge video projections and installations. In 2009 Bruce teamed up with producer Emma Wolf to open an office in London. Over the next five years, Darkroom was at the cutting edge of the video mapping phenomena that swept the world, with projects across Europe, China, USA and India. They also created video shows for summer festivals like Glastonbury and Kimberly, as well as corporate shows for Bentley, Intel and Google.
Emma and Bruce returned to New Zealand in 2013 to start a family and re-establish the studio there. The relationships they formed over the years with collaborators around the world continue to keep their creativity pumping. Darkroom’s work is largely event-based, and they work with event producers, directors and designers looking to create extraordinary event visuals. Darkroom is available for collaborations and contracting worldwide.

WHAT THEY’VE BEEN SAYING ABOUT US
This is what Takashi Murakami, renowned Japanese artist and President of Kaikai Kiki Co, had to say about Bruce:
“Our artists have collaborated with him several times in transferring work to the video medium, a process which requires much communication and exchange of opinion, and his unique and innovative ideas have led to brilliant results. I would also like to mention that Bruce Ferguson possesses a wonderful spirit and a big heart, which have always had a positive effect on the creative process.”
